Mr. Can has over 25 years’ experience of working with a number of International and Regional organizations in various senior management positions. He worked with Nile Basin Initiative which is an Intergovernmental organization of 10 African countries for a decade as Financial Controller, Plan international Uganda as Finance and Administration Manager, SNV Netherlands Development Organization, EU Human Right and Good Governance Program, EPAU/USAID Project and ACORD as the Country Coordinator. This has exposed him to financial management systems and financial reporting requirements of many development partners such as World Bank, USAID, Dutch Government, European Union, CIDA, SIDA and UKAID. During his work with those organizations, he introduced many innovations leading to cost savings, improved quality reporting, understanding and fulfilling their requirements and expectations which helped to build in Development Partner’s confidence and trust. Mr. Can has been lecturing in Gulu University to the MBA students on Creativity, Innovation and Change Management.
Mr. Can has qualifications of MBA of ESAMI, Association of Chartered Certified Accountants (UK), Certified Public Accountants of Kenya (CPA-K), Chartered Institute of Purchasing & Supply (CIPS – UK) certificate, Post Graduate Diploma in Management of Uganda management Institute (UMI), Bachelor of Science with Education (BSc(Ed)) of Makerere University, Kampala and Diplomas in Management studies of the College of Professional Management (CPM – UK). He is a member of various professional bodies such as ACCA, CPA(K), CPA(U), Project Management Profession (PMP) of Project Management Institute of USA, Chartered Institute of Purchasing & Supply (CIPS-UK) and member of American Society for Quality (ASQ).
Mr. Can’s achievements have been setting up financial management and control systems, review of
control systems and recommending for improvements, establishing budgetary process and control system, ensuring compliant with donor’s reporting requirements and statutory requirements, and capacity building of staff. He also setup procurement system including developing procurement plan, soliciting suppliers, contract management and managing
suppliers’ relationship. Coupled with his extensive work experience and the various professional qualifications he has, Mr. Can has creative, innovative and multi-perspective approach to problem solving leading to comprehensive and effective solutions. Being a Teacher by profession, he is proactive and can see a problem through, gifted at capacity building and change management.
